UNNC 2018/19 Academic Year Careers and Employability Annual Report released
The 2018/19 academic year saw the University produce 1,955 high-quality graduates; with undergraduate, master and doctoral students accounting for 79.5%, 17.7% and 2.7% respectively. The three types of graduates all achieved high employment rates within six months of graduating, reaching 96.5%, 97.6% and 100.0%, respectively. In 2019, 216 of the graduates came from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and around 40 overseas countries. about 1/3 of them chose to stay in China either for further education or employment.
By faculty, 38.5% of the 2019 undergraduate students who graduated are from the Faculty of Business (NUBs), 35.5% from Faculty of Science and Engineering (FoSE), and 26.0% from the Faculty of Humanities and Social sciences (FHSS). The programmes with a 100% employment rate include International Business with Communications Studies, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences.
84.3% of the undergraduates chose to continue their studies, among which 26.1% were enrolled in top 10 universities, 58.0% by top 50 universities, and 80.6% entered the top 100 universities. It is worth noting that 42.3% of graduates from the FoSE were admitted into the top 10 universities in the world and 83.7% of graduates from NUBs were admitted into top 100 universities globally.
The undergraduates who chose to continue in their studies have followed suit in 19 countries and regions around the world. Regional choices are becoming more diverse; with Britain, Australia and the United States being the most popular.
For undergraduate students who directly went into work, their average monthly income (before tax) is 8889.8 RMB, significantly exceeding the national average of 5044. Among them, 57.6% are employed in private enterprises, 27.3% in foreign and joint ventures, 10.3 % in state-owned and state-holding enterprises, and 4.8% in government and public institutions. In terms of location, 76.4% of graduates choose to work in first-tier cities and economically developed areas such as Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Beijing. Some graduates head to work in the United Kingdom, the United States, and the United Arab Emirates.
The employability rate of postgraduates who graduated in 2018 is 97.6%. Around 85.0% of graduates went directly to work, while 7.7% chose to study further, 4.8% started their own business or decided to freelance. Approximately 80% of graduates that went directly to work joined fortune 500 companies and listed companies including JD.com, NetEase, Coca-Cola and Tencent.
In 2018, there were 40 domestic doctoral graduates. All of them gave a response to the graduation survey, and the employability rate reaches 100% for five years. Most of them chose to serve for public institutions and government – 59.0% students went to higher education institutions, 30.8% went to different types of companies, and 10.3% of graduates went to overseas institutions as research fellows. Employers include TsingHua University, Zhejiang University, University of Birmingham, Huawei and Deloitte.
Since the graduation of the first cohort of students, there are over 16,000 graduates from the University of Nottingham Ningbo China now thriving around the world. There have been 24 alumni chapters spread across the globe, including London, New York, southern California, Melbourne, Sydney, Toronto, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Taiwan. In general, the stronger competitiveness and cross-cultural communication skills of UNNC students are favoured by enterprises. Admission and Career Development Office will continue to provide students career support with internationalised platform and service of high quality.
